January 11 Better late than never!!Hope you had a great Xmas and here's to a great 2007! Sorry I have not updated the blog for a while. Lots going on in my little world and in the complex galaxy that is TURMOIL!!
!! Saturday 30th December !!
As hopefully some of you will know, TURMOIL had gigs over the New Year weekend. We gigged the Saturday night at The Mariner, Folkestone. Reasonable crowd considering it was the night before New Years Eve. We aired some new songs too including Monster, Chasing Cars, In The Morning, Bartender & The Thief, Learn To Fly plus we also threw in Wuthering Heights and Best of You which we have only gigged once or twice before. Song of the night though must have been Back For Good...yes, the song made famous by Take That! I have no shame and admit to a)liking it and b)knowing most of the words! It only came about because Lewie needed a comfort break and I could not think of anything else to play!! Best of it was that we managed to get some drunk females, along with Nikki the Landlady to sing it for us! Very interesting musical interlude!! Good night though and looking forward to going back there again.
!! NEW YEARS EVE !!
What a night this turned out to be in the end! I arrived at Georges with 42 songs at hand. One of my closest friends, Becky, came over too. She had never seen the band before so it was gonna be an interesting night for her! We all made our way to The Happy Frenchman for 7.30pm and got ready to set up. They have moved the bands back under the stairs, which I prefer. There was a sizeable crowd there when we got there which was a good start. Lewie also brought along his video cameras to record the evenings entertainment. We kicked off at 9.30pm with some slower, laid back stuff, just to ease the crowd in. The first set was ok, and the place was still filling up. But for the 2nd set we just unleashed the power of TURMOIL on the unsuspecting crowd...and some!! We had a whale of a time, the crowd got right behind us, singing along to pretty much everything we did. All the new stuff went down really well, especially Chasing Cars, which made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck! I was pretty ill with a chest infection so I was drinking at my normal rate but I had enough inside me to encourage my alterego to come through! There were plenty of shape throwing antics going on, moving out in to the crowd at one point when we were doing I Predict A Riot. It was a fucking great night! Sharon re-booked us immediately for New Year 2007! We saw in the New Year and played on until gone 1pm. Chunk went on to a party and kept on partying! The legend that he is he managed to squeeze in 9 parties and didnt finish partying until the 3rd Jan!!! Fucking animal!!! I retired to Georges with Donna, Lewie and Bec. Bec and I went to bed at 3.30am totally shattered. And no stories to tell on that front either, shes one of my best mates and that will do thankyou very much!!! There were plenty of cameras about so hopefully we will have some pictures for you soon....
On a more personal note, Karen is close to popping now. She is due on 3rd Feb but if she makes it that far I will be surprised. She is getting all these funny movements now and she says she thinks its coming early. Karen came to the gig at The Mariner and the baby kicked like a bastard when we were doing Chasing Cars! The boy has taste! Keep an eye out here for the latest news.
LOOKING BACK ON 2006
Well, what a superb year 2006 was for TURMOIL. We have really started to build a reputation locally as one of the top covers bands around, played to thousands at Dock Rock, been interviewed on Radio Kent and have a lot of thanks and gratitude to offer to everyone that has supported us this last year. From the band we want to say thankyou to our families, friends and loyal band of Turmites
